Tess walked up the stairs and avoided the doormat. She was still fairly sure the mat was a trap door. She knocked on the door, avoiding eye contact with the symbols on the wood.

“Come in, sweetie,” Amy's voice called from inside. She ignored it and tried the knocker again, but when nobody came after several more minutes, she opened the door and entered.

Amy and Paul were standing in the entry, still dressed in their matching outfits; Amy's hair was still perfectly cemented to the top of her head. Knowing now they didn't exist, Tess thought they looked even creepier.
