The warning bell ended their conversation. Students who had been milling about in the hallway began to arrive.
When Nick entered the class, Tess was surprised to see a fresh black eye and cracked lip. He walked in without making eye contact with anyone. Tess had never seen him so defeated. Yesterday, he had appeared scared, but not broken.
Jenna spoke first. “What happened to him?”
“A guess? Jeremy,” Titus thought out loud.
