Cat. It has to be a cat. Tess lied to herself. Imagine it's a cat. She jogged a few steps to catch up to her mother and Amy.

As the group moved down the long hall, an inhuman groan echoed.

First giggling, now groans.

Tess wracked her brain trying to imagine the type of beast that could produce a noise like that. Maybe it was some undead horror, a zombie! or Paul starting a chainsaw to dismember them. She jerked at that thought.

That was a little too dark, Tess scolded herself. She was reluctant to admit she was frightened, but creeped out and borderline scared worked. She didn't need to add phantom worries to her already very real one...
