Stu and Marge Kent took the latest flight out of Tampa and arrived in Detroit at ten forty-two in the morning. They had a layover in Atlanta. Tom stood at the bottom of the escalator in the luggage claim area to greet them both. He shook Stu’s hand and Stu grabbed Tom on the shoulder and squeezed. The last time they saw each other was Christmas and it ended on such a happy note. Now, on a brink of a bright summer day, the note had soured.

Marge fell apart as she hugged Tom and ruined his shirt with her smeared mascara. She said something, but Tom couldn’t understand her. He hugged her back until she calmed down.

Marge insisted on going straight to the hospital to see Tiffany. Tom agreed and Stu approved with a grunt. She asked many questions. Tom answere...
