Tom drove his Buick Rendezvous down I-75. It was a 2005 model and it used to be Sarah’s car. He bought it for her when they moved to Clarkston and presented it to her with the exclamation, “It’s a brand new used car!” She laughed then hopped around the car clapping. She loved the Buick. After she died, Tom couldn’t bring himself to get rid of it, despite the tell tale signs that it would need a new transmission soon. Whenever he stopped then took off again, the car jerked with a thud from underneath as if it were shifting into drive for the first time. He had the transmission flushed and the problem only seemed to get worse.
