almost crushing him.  He jumped to the side and then put one more slug into its head just to make sure.

   He reloaded his weapon and took off.

   Trace ran without looking back.  She knew what was back there and it was almost on her.  She almost ran into a tree and tripped into some brush and found herself tumbling down a wooded hill.  She hit several trees on the way down and finally stopped; face first and bleeding in the needle-ridden forest floor.  She got up and her side screamed in a fury of pain and she almost fell again.  The Darkheart rounded over the hill and began to roll down after her.  She started hobbling away and realized she was on a massive cliff and had no time to figure out another escape route....
