Chapter 14

Wednesday, May 5, 2010: Late Afternoon

I sighed and rolled over in bed. I’d like to say I slept well, but I’d be lying. Mostly I tossed and turned, moving from one lousy dream to another. None of them prophetic. Just bad. Right now I wouldn’t have minded some sort of dream clue as to what was to come, but apparently the Universe wasn’t in the mood to come clean. Sucks to be a diviner and not have a clue what was coming.

As I sat up and stretched, I heard a soft knock at the door. I picked up my phone and squinted at the time. Just after four o’clock. As usual, Paul was on time.

“Yeah, I’m up,” I said. “Thanks. I’ll be out in a minute, after I shower.”

“I’ve got food ready.”
