“Makes sense,” I said. “What do we do with him now?”

Damien struggled to his feet, and I hurried over to support him with a shoulder. His blood smeared my clothes, but I didn’t care.

“You got a car nearby?”

I nodded. “Yeah. Paul lent me his.”

“Good. Help me with him.”

Between the two of us, we hauled the vampire to his feet and dragged him to the car. A couple of people on the street watched us, and I said, “He was attacked. We’re getting him to the hospital.”

That was enough, and everyone went back to their business. In big cities, no one wants to get involved.
