As he started to leave the room, I said, “I’m wired now. Anything I can help with?”

Paul paused and turned. “I was going to go see Nicola and then visit Damien. I haven’t had a chance to talk to him since yesterday evening.”

“Want company?” I held my breath while I waited for his answer. I figured he wouldn’t mind me being along to see Damien, but I wasn’t as certain about Nicola.

He didn’t hesitate. “Sure, if you’re up to it. I’d like for you to know Damien better. If he hangs around town, he’s a decent sort. Not a bad one in a pinch if something happens to me.”
