The process had taken about an hour, which meant it was a good time to call my parents.

They live in California, so I’m always careful to remember time zones. While they both tend to get up early, there was that time I forgot and called them at 4 am their time. To say they were “not amused” would be an understatement.

I called home. As usual, Mom answered. She’s not magically active, so you might think she handles all the tech stuff. Not true. My dad’s as big a geek as you could imagine. You ought to see how he’d tricked out his MacBook. But mom spends more time in the kitchen (she loves to cook), so she’s usually the one near the phone.
