Chapter 5

Sunday, September 6, 2009: early morning

When my alarm went off the next morning, my first impulse was to ignore it and go back to sleep. Then I remembered why I’d set it. Right. Date with Stephen. Can’t miss that.

I hurriedly showered and fed the ferrets before rushing out the door. Fortunately, Annie’s is a short walk from my apartment, so I got there in plenty of time. I walked in and Sonya, my favorite waitress, greeted me. “Hey, Dafydd.” She frowned slightly before adding. “Alone again, as usual.”

I shot her a grin. “Not today. I’m meeting someone.”

She showed me to a table by the front windows. “Someone. As in—”

I nodded. “Yep, an official first date.”
