Caitlyn picked up circle activation with gratifying speed. I was beginning to think she was going to be an excellent witch once I had her trained. I briefly considered having a discussion with Jim about setting up a coven, just the three of us for now, but perhaps expanding later. Reluctantly, I decided now was the wrong time to think about it, but maybe later, after this situation was resolved.

I double-checked all my magical ingredients and mentally went through the ritual one more time. Nodding in satisfaction, I decided I was ready and cleared my throat to get everyone’s attention.

Caitlyn looked up from a book on circles I’d given her; Paul glanced up from his computer—not sure what he’d been looking at—, and Runner poked his head in from the kitchen where he’d been fix...
