“You mean to say she basically did to the buildings what a vampire does to a thrall?” Paul asked.

Of course that was the parallel he’d draw, but he was basically right.

“Yes,” I said. “Because buildings aren’t alive, I’d never thought that she could create, in effect, a master/slave link between them. It was only partly a channel. There was also an actual change in the building aura. I didn’t know you could do that to something that’s not alive.”
