We arrived back at the car without incident, and Caitlyn climbed into her now-usual seat in the back. I gave Paul a questioning look, but he just shrugged. I nodded and got into the passenger seat.
Paul turned on the car and started driving. I shifted in my seat so I could see Caitlyn in the back seat. “Okay, spill. What is Richard?”
Caitlyn’s gaze had been out the window, but when I spoke, her eyes shifted to look at me. “We don’t actually know. He told you that we are a multiple personality, which is the closest explanation we’ve ever been able to come up with.” She paused, obviously putting her words together, and I gave her the time to think. “Richard has been with me for as long as I can remember. You know. A kid’s invisible friend?”
