all the bad drivers had either gotten home or gone to Maryland because there were no more accidents, and we arrived less than ten minutes later. I glanced at the time on my phone. The trip home had taken a lot longer than I had wanted, but it was worthwhile to have Paul healthy again.

We got out of the car, and Paul gave the partially-completed building a quick look-over. Based on my extensive knowledge of construction (and the architect’s rendering on a nearby sign), this was going to be a five-story mixed use building with retail on the first level and the rest was going to be high-end condos and professional office buildings. In other words, exactly the sort of place a Millennial like me was supposed to want to live in but could never afford.

My warm feelings toward McDonald started to cool.<...
