Chapter 3

September 16, 2011 Evening

"Not human?" Paul said. "What then?"

I motioned to his car. "Why don't we take this conversation on the road?"

We all climbed in to the red Prius, Caitlyn moving to the back without being told.

Paul pulled away from the curb and smoothly executed a tight turn to head back to the main road. As we left the neighborhood, strobing police lights fading in the distance, he asked again, "Not human?"

I nodded. "No, I can't tell you what it is, but something about the aura says both female and not human to me."

Paul frowned and tapped his fingers on the steering wheel. "Well, I suppose we could try to narrow it down. If it were a vampire, you'd know it."
