soon as the car turned a corner, it was obvious where we were going. Flashing lights and cars surrounded a house at the end of a small cul-de-sac. Paul parked nearby, and we all got out.

A tall man hurried over to meet us. I say "man," but Damien's really a vampire and a friend of Paul's. He's also the liaison between the head vampire in DC and the various police departments. Which is handy when we need information or access to a crime scene.

As Damien approached in a swirl of black business suit, practical gray tie and light blue shirt, his dark eyes snapped to Caitlyn. "Paul? What is this? Have you lost all reason to bring yet another human into our world?"
