student was staring at her. “You sure? You’ve gone completely white. Want me to walk you down to the clinic?”

She shook her head. “No, I’ll be fine. I just wasn’t expecting this, is all.” She forced a smile and hoped it didn’t look too ghastly. “Really, I’m fine.”

Alan looked doubtful, and she repeated, “Honest. I’ll just take this to my office and read it there.”

“Well, okay. If you say so,” he said doubtfully. “See you in class next week.”

“Sure thing.”

Feeling Alan’s eyes on her, she started for her office. She appreciated his concern, but really, she was fine, and she didn’t want anyone with her when she read this.
