eggs, flour and other basic necessities. While she scrambled eggs and mixed pancake batter, Jim fed Dori and then turned on his iPad to check the news. He groaned at the first news item, and Denise turned.

“What?”

“There’s been another murder.”

That killed the beginnings of a pleasant mood, and Jim scanned the article, a frown crossing his face the more he read.

“What?” Denise asked again as she flipped eggs onto a plate.

“This doesn’t make sense.” He read further. “While the article didn’t go into specific details, on the surface it sounds like another one of John’s. But they also say they have a suspect in custody. Which is clearly not possible.”
