Chapter 13

November 2, 2010. Early morning

Jim had early classes the next morning, so he’d gone to bed almost as soon as his guests had left. When his alarm went off, he groaned, turned it off, accepted wet kisses from Dori and levered his reluctant body out of bed.

After seeing Dori out to the back yard to do her business, he turned on the television to check the news. His still-sleepy brain idly noted the talking heads discussing some “horrific crime” that had happened yesterday evening, and a part of him knew he should pay attention, but the larger part focused on brewing coffee.

Then he heard something which made him whirl so quickly to face the set that his leg almost gave out under him. Only a quick grab for the counter saved him from a spill.
