Chapter 10

November 1, 2010. Late Afternoon

Jim arrived home to the usual flurry of wagging tail and jumping tri-color fur. He took some time to give Dori some attention and a short walk around the block before getting everything together. He’d have to hurry if he wanted to do the ritual before dark. The easiest place to summon a spirit was at the grave site, and cemetery officials frowned on visitors after dark.

As he packed his backpack with ritual supplies, he considered the divination he needed to perform. It would be a variant on the ones he performed for local psychics who needed insight on the occasional haunting. While spirits could certainly cause harm, they weren’t skilled at avoiding magical seekings. He was confident he had everything on hand he’d need. Casting a spell...
