Chapter 7

October 31, 2010: late afternoon

Life returned to normal quickly. Teaching classes, advising students, and the paper Jim was writing on “Mystical Influences in Ancient Peruvian Cultures” distracted him from the events of the previous month. He did occasionally get the impression something wasn’t quite right, and he found his eye drawn to his angel statues more frequently than usual, but even deep meditation didn’t reveal anything definite, and he’d decided to wait until he received a clearer sign.

Halloween approached, and while Jim enjoyed watching the kids get ready to enjoy the holiday, he made his own preparations. Most of his magic had a Christian feel, but he did celebrate the pagan Sabbaths. Yes, it was an odd mix, but his first teacher had followed a Wiccan...
