Chapter 6

September 18, 2010. Mid-afternoon

When Jim arrived at the graveside service for John Evans, everything went mostly as he’d hoped. The weather was perfect early fall, with plenty of sunshine and just a few fluffy clouds chasing each other across the clear blue sky. On a day like this it was impossible to consider that evil existed in the world.

He’d not been surprised at the number of people who attended. Although John had not been popular, Denise was well-liked by faculty, support personnel and her students. Several of the latter were in attendance, and their casual jeans, piercings and t-shirts were a contrast to the more formal attire of faculty. Dark suits and skirts flocked around the gravesite like a fluttering murder of crows.
