shook his head and forced his attention back to her. “No, nothing to do with this. Just … something I thought of that I need to check into.” He smiled. “Any other questions?”

She looked at the bag in her hand and back to him. “Not really. I mean, when you have time, I’d love to learn more about the ritual you did. I’m still amazed that magic really works, but I’ve got a class in an hour, and I’d better get going.”

He stood up to show her to the door. “That’s fine. You know how to reach me. Maybe we could have lunch sometime, and I could tell you more about it. Don’t forget to sprinkle the basil around your house. Pay special attention to your room and any places John particularly favored.”
