Chapter 17

Thursday, May 6, 2010. Late Evening

Paul arrived a few minutes later. I examined him carefully. He didn’t give much away, but I’d known him a while now, and I saw more than most people.

He was anxious but controlling it well. Malachai hadn’t told him where yet then. His eyes flicked from my sandwich to the potion brewing mess on the counter. His shoulders relaxed fractionally, and I hid an inward smile. So far so good. I looked like I was planning to stay put. Now to shake him up a bit. He’d suspect something if I didn’t put up something of a fight.

I reached for a potion bottle, checking the label as I did so—Mind Control Block—and handed it over. “This is for you.”
