A light rapping on the office door was enough to remind Miles he had slept another night on the couch in his office.  Regardless of the discomfort, it was more secure than the building he called home.  He struggled to sit up, gathered his wits, stood to cross the room, and unlock the door.

“What?” he said flatly through the small crack he opened between door and jamb.

“Sir, you have an appointment today with a member of the press about your bill.  He’ll be here in twenty minutes.”

Damn.  The job was constantly getting in the way of his work.  It was a boulder strapped around his neck, threatening to pull him ever downward.  If he wasn’t careful, that boulder would lash him to the ground, making him... plebeian...
