My companions remained
Inky black, like onyx smoke
Surrounding me at night
Their numbers grew as I did
They were there as I studied
Surrounded by books and pencil shavings
As I longed for the One
When I was in passion’s throws
Enlocked in carnal embrace
As I wept for love lost
They stood by my side
