The second time Shirley visited Walter Leoni, she used the element of surprise. Unfortunately for me, I wasn’t along, so I was forced to settle for Shirley’s account.

    "Miss Combs.” Walter Leoni stood at the open door of his home, his hair mussed, his tie loose, his starched white shirt wrinkled and untucked.

    "I apologize for arriving unannounced, Mr. Leoni, but I have a few more questions I'd like to ask, if you don't mind.” Shirley knew he was too polite to say he minded although his pained expression made it clear he did.
