Daybreak came to the day of battle, although the Romans understood the day to be one of preparations for redeployment a few days later.  They were quite unaware of the maelstrom of ferocity that would hasten their exodus from the Wall and even Britannia, if only for a while.

The Auxiliaries and Legionnaires were eating breakfast or bathing, some were preparing their travel kits, and none had noticed the two conspirators at the Wall, or the snorting and sighing of their horses. Pock and Reda waited for the sun to hit the ramparts above, the agreed upon signal to start, lingering beside the north vallum of the gate at Hunnun.  

Pock sat quietly with his cart, shushing at his newly introduced tande...
