Kat did as she was asked, each humiliating test, each painful exercise. An eternity may as well have passed while she was being the guinea pig for Doctor Landon. But at the end of it, she was given the go ahead to be free of the things that had kept her alive for the past summer. Once she was able to do so, she asked for a drink and Jake smiled reassuringly.

“That’s right. Keep that go-getter attitude up and you’ll be out of here in no time.” He kept the smile a little too long and Kat understood that she may have lived through the only good news of the day. A knock at the door stopped her pending spiral and her eyes fell upon the most beautiful doctor she’d ever seen.
