“I’ll be down as soon as I get dressed. Thank you.” Evelyn closed the door and closed her eyes. Although disappointed with the harsh reality, she had no time to dwell on what could and could not be. Mara was growing more and more impatient and there was no point to keep her waiting, hoping that Alexander would know she wanted him to knock on her door and give her the world. She threw on a pair of jeans and the sweater she’d pulled out and headed downstairs. The smell of toasted sandwiches and cocktails greeted her and although she had not been hungry before, her stomach lurched with a ravenous growl and she hurried to the dining room to collect her lunch.
