Kat let out a stream of nearly silent curses. “Wait.” She looked the woman in the eyes. “Evey, is it? I didn’t mean to come off like that. I’ve had a really trying couple weeks and I’m not used to people being so nice to me. I can’t guarantee to be a replacement Mikael, but if you need a friend, I can be that.
