Knock, knock, knock.
Eager to ignore the door, Alexander pulled Evelyn closer to him, shielding her from whoever it was so willing to intrude. She showed more darkness than he’d ever seen, but it was so brilliant and glaring, like a dead sun. The knocks came again and it seemed to break through Evelyn’s lack of propriety. She immediately loosened her grip of him and stood to the side. Fury swept through Alexander and he bolted to the door, tearing it open. The rage was almost tangible as the gust of wind from the door’s suction hit Evelyn in the face. Fear crossed a stoutly man’s face as he met eyes with Alexander.
