Evelyn looked back over her subjects, longing for any destiny that wasn’t her own. She wasn’t sure there would be a chance for her to express those thoughts, however, as the engine rumbled underneath her. In the end, she’d decided not to tell Mikael anything. She wasn’t able to find the words that would cause him to listen to her without assuming she was making fun of his present situation. There was nothing she could do to prove to him she was being sincere, without bias. At least, not yet. So as he had offered his hand to her to step onto the plane, she had gripped it as firmly as she could, hoping he would interpret her silent apology accordingly.
