The Detective Chief Inspector shook his head. ‘I don’t know what to think, Harry. I thought Sir Templeton’s castle was grand enough, but this place takes the biscuit!’

Detective Sergeant Makepeace snorted. ‘You can say that again. I have never seen anything like it!  This is supposed to be the Dean’s House – Palace more like!’

The two policemen surveyed the scene. The grand entrance hall was more like a cathedral than a home, its gothic arches stretching up to a sky-and stars ceiling. All around, the walls were covered in serious-looking clerics, some in their religious robes, others in the best secular fashion of their day.
