Wright Watson was nervous, Harry Makepeace even more so. Neither policeman was comfortable attending the Sunday morning service at St Martin’s. Both had decided it would be worth going to see if anything could be gleaned from either the service or the worshippers.

‘Was this a good idea, sir?’

‘It seemed like it on Friday evening, Harry, but now I am not so sure now. Still, we are here, and it would be difficult to turn round and walk away at this stage.’
