Rose Banks looked across to the other end of the dining table. She watched as the maid served her husband breakfast, then motioned to the children to stay quiet. No talking was allowed at meals unless initiated by father and, as was his custom and practice, the Reverend Doctor Percy Banks would not break the silence until he had finished eating.
