The New World
From soap bubbles, I emerge. Cocooned in bath mist I slip into the light. My armour of sandalwood shimmers around me.
I close my eyes to this delight.
Every breath is freedom.
Every breath is safe.
To leave this place is to leave a dream. Outside, the world is foul and green-yellow. The air bristles with malice. Breaths come in hacking gasps, or not at all.
This place is with me always. I reach for it through a smog of pain. I reach for it when the light dims.
When despair tightens its grip I remember there is a place beyond all this. A place where I am safe. At the end of the nightmare, it is there.
