For this ongoing exercise in whatever it is I’m trying to do, I’ve downloaded “500 Prompts for Narrative and Personal Writing” from the New York Times website. They are categorized and numbered.

Writing prompts never really opened gateways for me. At least, none memorable. My Best Friend, the Graphic Designer, knows the kind of prompts to give me. But sometimes you just have to make words happen. Writing prompts are then like the docusate sodium for words. When it’s painful to write, or hard to start, Writing Prompts help soften the movement.
