accord, propelling me to an upright position. My vision was the only part of me that lagged. Everything was blurry at first. Then Madena’s smiling face came into focus.

I calmed myself, stepping off the bed. As soon as my feet hit the floor, I let myself fall backwards to sit on the bed. As I looked up into Medana’s face, I smiled. That’s when I noticed it was beginning to darken in the room. I turned, looking out the window, it was nearing evening time. I must have slept for several hours. Madena informed me, all had gone well. Cassey was resting, after feeding the child.

“A girl.”

Madena’s smile brightened when she voiced those words.

“How is Cassey?”, I inquired.
