She pleaded with him to return and after many weeks whilst he boarded at a holiday let in Bondi he agreed to give the marriage another go. At first they were able to maintain a certain level of civility but it was clear that Kay still had issues. She became depressed and would retreat into her shell. Other times she raged, shouting when Markus arrived home late from an assignment. She’d accuse him of being unfaithful and wouldn’t accept hisexplanations. Then she disappeared for days on end. Eventually she said she couldn’t go on. They agreed to divorce and Markus found it hard to date anyone. This was the case for at least five years during which he pursued a life consumed by career goals.
