Ralph, seemingly wanting to impress her, didn’t seem able to begin any subject of interest. Connie, on the other hand, felt awkward. Normally not lost for a word, she wondered what would be of interest to this man who so far had shown no sign of having much ability with words. Did he consider her cold because her speech was caustic? This hadn’t been an issue with Trent who she kept thinking about.
When their drinks finally arrived, Connie said, “I can certainly use this.”
Ralph said, “Me too.” He gulped half the glass of VB beer and sighed contentedly when he placed the glass on the table. “What’s your real name? I’m Ralph.”
