Tuesday morning early. Markus awoke from a bad dream. He glanced at the bedside clock which read 5:48. He rubbed sleep from his eyes and decided to get up. He stretched, looked outside. It was dark and cold. Typical weather for June. He donned his track suit and went for a run. It felt invigorating. He returned to his flat around 6:50am. He remembered as he stepped inside that he’d called Penelope the night before and told her about the news from the Crime Command and that he needed to focus on the case. He would be working long hours and he probably couldn’t see her for a while. Already he regretted saying that but it was no doubt the best thing to do. To catch this killer he needed to concentrate and not be distracted by personal matters.
