Markus, in sweaty white T-shirt and shorts, allowed the man to tell his story.

Vinnie Alberto was a proud family man. He was a paunchy five foot six but a passionate man who loved his wife of thirty- eight years and his son and four daughters. Maria was his eldest and his favourite.

His wife Caterina came into the lounge where Vinnie was watching a soccer match. She said, “I’ve tried getting Maria on the phone last night and this morning but nothing.  This is not like her.”

“And you’ve tried her landline and mobile?”

“Yes. I’ve even left messages.”
