“Mr Doppler, nice to finally meet you,” said Superintendent Gross. He was a tall elegant man in his sixties with greying hair and an upright bearing. His large mahogany desk looked like it had never been used. Perhaps he hadn’t unpacked yet, speculated Markus.
Gross shook Markus’ hand. “Take a seat. McMannus has told me a lot about you.”
“Some of it good, I hope.”
The Superintendent grinned. “Some,” he said.
Markus knew that Martin Gross was new to Sydney but he was ultimately responsible for the serial killing case. McMannus reported directly to him and Markus reported to McMannus. Markus sat opposite the Superintendent, pleased he’d finally got to meet the big boss, the man who, in time, would have the final say in renewin...
