“Yes, I’ve been here once or twice before.”

Rachel wanted to ask him whether this was his preferred venue for initial meetings with women from ‘Cheaters’ but didn’t want to push it. She had been advised to let him do the running. She was not to ask too many questions which might make him suspicious. There was a plan which required Rachel to act passively yet lead him gently along a particular path, one designed especially for this meeting. Rachel smiled.

“So what do you do?” said Adrian after a short silence.

Rachel almost blurted out she worked for the police but held back just in time. “I work in a library, as an assistant librarian.”

“Oh yeah, which one?”

“Chatswood,” she said, hoping he lived in the Eastern...
