Chapter 24

He let the rain sweep over him. He felt exhilarated. The assignment had ended satisfactorily.

At home, he took his clothes off and dropped them into a bag. He would dispose of the bag tomorrow. He showered and went to bed where he lay quietly reliving the evening. He stared at the large flat-screen television on the wall opposite the bed. It was switched off.

He recalled each detail. She was dressed for the weather. She had boots, a raincoat and a large brown umbrella which nearly blew her off her feet. The rain was fierce. He watched from under a bus shelter as she walked up steps to the front door of the apartment building. She used her key to enter the fourteen storey building. He waited until she was out of view then ran across the street. He pressed a button. No respo...
