“There’s a pattern,” said Markus. He surveyed the donuts on offer in the conference room at Police Headquarters but decided against choosing one.

Detectives Matt Bridle, Sam Masters and Genevieve Hudson had no such reservations and each selected one of the Krispy Crème donuts. The team was assembled in the large room which overlooked Charles Street. Markus had reviewed details of emails found on the dead women’s computers after the Electronic Evidence folk had finished their work. He’d also analysed other data, some of which only came to him the night before. He recalled the way it had emerged.
