Ralph McCosser was tired. He’d had a rough day. The boss gave him a hard time. His men didn’t perform quickly enough. It was hot. He slammed the door when he entered the house and dumped his bag and newspaper on the table. Trudi wasn’t around. He took a can of Tooheys from the fridge and sat in the comfortable armchair and switched on the television. He soon found a football game. He breathed deeply. This was the best cure for his black mood.
Ten minutes later Trudi arrived. She’d had her hair done. McCosser noticed but he decided not to comment. It annoyed him that she spent money to colour her hair and have it stylishly cut for a bloody fortune. And for what? She wasn’t that attractive any more. Why bother?
