Klat’cha’chet stared at the trail of carnage her bears had left in their wake. Hundreds of ha’la’ai soldiers lay dead or dying on the soft ground, hundreds more flailed through the black waters of the swamp, screaming as her troops fell on them from the trees, the sounds silenced mid-scream. The bulk of their army, defeated in ways having nothing to do with death, fled south back along their track. She had no mandate from Tuk’cha’chet other than to break whatever forces she encountered to keep them from flanking the outpost, but she knew even before they'd won the battle she’d follow their path back to the main body.
